Known as the first American botanist and naturalist, responsible for cataloging virtually all of the native plants, trees and wildlife in the Southeastern United States, William Bartram is equally appreciated for his beautifully written and illustrated accountings of nature and of native American peoples. Bartram's path throughout his travels is known as the Bartram Trail, traversing the lower South, up the Savannah River through Augusta, to it headwaters in the mountains of North Carolina. Gently rolling terrain, old-growth hardwoods, and meandering creeks serve as the backdrop for this 900-acre community.
Bartram Trail features a 200-acre wilderness preserve and an 18-hole, upscale daily fee golf course (www.bartramtrailgolfclub.org). Design guidelines call for historically-based architecture, including Craftsman/Bungalow, Shingle, and Tudor Revival. Phase A was made available in December 2004, and includes 55 half acre homesites starting at $61,200 and homes starting at $298,000. Choose from nine featured builders in this unique, conservation-oriented neighborhood. Visit Bartram Trail - from Augusta, right off exit 190 and left at first redlight, mile on the right.
